Membership

Over 15% of Farmborough’s households have become a member of Farmborough Community Shop.

Their generosity has raised over £30,000, which enabled us to gain a grant of £83,000 from the LEADER programme and £30,000 from the Prince’s Countryside Fund, securing the majority of the funding we needed to build, fit-out and stock the shop.

Ongoing memberships are invested in the running and ongoing improvements of the shop.

Become a member and join your friends and neighbours from just £10

Farmborough Community Shop is a business that is run by the community for the community, and the success of the shop relies on support from people like you, who live and work in Farmborough.

What are Community Shares?

Community shares are what you will get in return for investing in and becoming a member of your local community shop. They are an ideal way for communities to invest in enterprises serving a community purpose – take a look at this two-minute animation that explains why…

The sale of community shares in Farmborough Community Shop Ltd (a Registered Society for the Benefit of the Community), is an opportunity for local people and organisations to contribute financially, long-term, to a community shop in Farmborough, in the expectation of receiving a social dividend rather than a financial return. This social dividend will mean different things to different people, but may include:

  • having a shop in the village to get daily staples – milk, bread, newspapers, and so much more.
  • a ‘community hub’ where people can meet, make friends and exchange information.
  • getting people out and about, walking around the village and bumping into friends and neighbours.
  • ensuring good quality produce is available in the village, supporting local producers and reducing food miles.
  • reducing car journeys to supermarkets and other shops.
  • making Farmborough a more desirable place to live.

Anyone aged 18 or over can become a member of the Society by investing from as little as £10, but each applicant can apply for any number of shares up to a maximum value of £20,000.

The Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) is currently unavailable.
