Support your shop – become a member

25 February 2018 by admin

With the building in place and essential services connected, we have reopened membership of the shop to raise the rest of the funds needed to provide level access, complete the fit out, and purchase the stock required prior to opening.

Our third share offer was officially launched at our Farmers’ Market at the end of February, and 30 local residents and businesses have already taken up the offer to become a member helping us to reach our community funding target of £50,000 and get the shop open in May.

Anyone aged 18 or over can become a member of the shop by investing from as little as £10, but each applicant can apply for any number of shares up to a maximum value of £20,000. UK taxpayers may also be eligible for tax relief at 30% of the value of shares purchased under the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS).

You can download or contact us for copies of our:

  • Membership (community share offer) prospectus and form
  • Membership form and summary info
  • Business Plan
  • Society Rules

Donations are also welcomed.

Big Family Apple Day & Community BBQ

22 September 2016 by admin

appleday-posterOverwhelmed with apples and pears? Don’t know what to do with them all? Then bring them for pressing at the Big Family Apple Day on Saturday 1st October from 12pm-4pm at The Rec, in support of Farmborough Community Shop.

There will be two large apple presses to turn all your apples and pears into tasty juice, and you will be able learn how to turn your juice into cider too. Remember to bring a bucket or suitable container(s) for your juice! A charge of £1 per 5 litres of pressed juice will be made to cover running costs.

No apples and pears? No worries! Come with friends and family to celebrate the abundance of local fruit. Watch the apple pressing and enjoy something from our community BBQ, with cider, ice cream, and local apple juice. BBQ food: £3 adults, £2 kids. Meal deals (incl drink): £5 adults, £3 kids, £15 family. Vegetarian option available.

Arrangements are also being made for a local apple expert to attend, so come with any questions about how to grow this wonderful fruit in your own back garden, or get the best from the trees you already have.

Plus, bring your tennis rackets and footballs for family fun on the Rec, try your luck in the raffle, meet your neighbours, and find out more about your community shop (planned to open in 2017).

For more info, call: 01761 470 690 or email: info@farmboroughshop.co.uk or download the Big Family Apple Day leaflet.

Invest in YOUR shop – share offer launch

22 October 2014 by admin

Farmborough Community Share Offer ProspectusOn Saturday 8 November we will be launching the sale of community shares in Farmborough Community Shop Ltd. This is an opportunity for local people and organisations to contribute financially, long-term, to a community shop in Farmborough

We are looking to raise at least £50,000, with the aim to reach £150,000; an ambitious target but required for us to progress and gain matched funding through grants.

Anyone aged 18 or over can become a member of the Society by investing from as little as £10, but each applicant can apply for any number of shares up to a maximum value of £20,000. UK tax payers will also be eligible for tax relief at 50% of the value of shares purchased under Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS).

Find out more about where the shop will be and what it could potentially look like, and learn about becoming a member (shareholder) to financially support your local shop, by attending one of our special launch events at the following places and times:

  • Farmborough All Saints Church: Saturday 8 November: 10.30am – 1pm
  • Priston Village Hall: Saturday 15 November: 11am – 12 noon
  • Farmborough Memorial Hall: Saturday 15 November: 2pm – 4pm
  • Farmborough Memorial Hall: Tuesday 18 November: 7.30pm – 9pm

At all these events we will be presenting our plans for the shop and giving details about the community share offer, as well as being available to answer questions, assist with share applications and provide further information.

Sketch view of the shop from above Timsbury Road (Nash Partnership)

Included in our display will be several illustrations and outline sketches of the shop drawn by local architects Nash Partnership, with whom we have been working closely to complete a briefing document, feasibility study and pre-application. We hope these drawings will allow everyone to gain an idea of how the shop might look, while helping to bring it to life.

The first event will be a coffee morning on Saturday 8 November at Farmborough All Saints Church from 10.30am to 1pm, so come along for a cuppa and some cake and use this opportunity to browse our display and ask any questions you might have about the shop.
